Conserving Cultural Landscapes

Participants at the 2010 Round Table.

The 5th Montreal Round Table (2010) examined the protection, conservation and management of cultural landscapes in Canada and abroad. The participants worked with a definition of cultural landscapes and humanised landscapes as places where people interact with their natural environment over time, resulting in sites with distinctive physical and intangible attributes. This broad and rich subject ultimately reflects on the imponderables of time and change. Much remains to be done to integrate a conservation ethos into a transitional world.  This challenge calls for new models and mechanisms that bring all stakeholders together in an effort to harmonize disparate policies and processes into a holistic system at the landscape scale.
